The booths were filled with the familiar local favorites such as K-Kids, Cub Scouts and Cornerstone of Hope. But, this year, there also were some new faces.

Holy Smokers was available to help kindle the parish fires. Ed Riegelmayer of Parma Heights hates to see things go to waste. So, as head custodian for St. Michael Catholic Church, he looked for ways to recycle and reuse where he could.

To make Holy Smokers, he took leftover wax from the church candles and pencil shavings from pencil sharpeners and mixed them together to make a fire starter.

The plastic and tin from candleholders is recycled, along with the boxes they came in, and all the money goes back to the church.

Diane Ginley of Brunswick had samples from Market Day. Each month, the students bring home a flier or catalogue with foods and coupons from Market Day. If a family orders anything, the product is delivered to the school, which get 10 percent of the proceeds.

Kathy O'Brien had Wrap-n-Mats. She said, "Twenty million plastic bags a day are thrown out from school lunches. These were invented by a mom in Boulder, Colo. They're sustainable and reusable mats to wrap sandwiches in. You wipe them off and, at the end of the week, just wash them with a little dish soap."

Proceeds from the sales of the Wrap-n-Mats at the Independence Fall Fest, the St. Michael Feast Days and the St. Michael Craft Fair will benefit the parish.

Roseanne Cifani of Fit 360 in Broadview Heights was there telling people about JuicePlus and her own fitness classes, including a fat loss boot camp she's planning next year. She said she came to the feast days to help the cause.

"I'm here to help fundraise for St. Michael's," Cifani said. "I always think of the cause, rather than just the event. It's all about helping people."

Sheri Dean of Independence and Jacque Marshall of Brecksville loved the event.

Dean said, "It's nice to get together and see people I haven't seen in a while. It's a lot of fun."

Marshall said, "I love it. It's so family oriented."
